In 2026 it is also one of the best-kept secrets for remote workers — you can rent a sea-view apartment from USD 200/month, eat well for USD 200/month, and base yourself a 90-minute flight from Europe. This guide covers everything you need to live and work from Hurghada for 1–6 months: visas, Wi-Fi, eSIMs, monthly budgets, the best neighbourhoods and the legal stuff you actually need to sort out.

1. Visa rules for digital nomads in 2026

Egypt is one of the easiest countries in the world for a “soft” long stay. You do not need a separate digital-nomad visa. Two options:

Tourist visa on arrival (most passports): 30 days, free or USD 25, single entry. Extendable at any passport office in Hurghada for another 30 days (USD 22). Total: 60 days legal stay without a residency visa.
Tourist visa, multiple entry: USD 60, valid 6 months, each stay up to 30 days. Best option if you want to bounce between Egypt and a short trip home or to Europe.

For stays longer than 60 days, you can either “visa run” to Jordan (Aqaba is 5 hours by road, no visa for most Western passports) or apply for a residency visa through a local sponsor. Most nomads we know do the visa run every 50 days.

El Gouna — Tamr Henna Co-working: USD 80/month hot desk, fastest Wi-Fi in the area, 24/7 access.
Sahl Hasheesh — Old Town cafés: free Wi-Fi but slower (10–30 Mbps), buy a coffee and you can work for hours.
Hurghada — Starbucks / Costa: Mamsha, Senzo Mall, Hurghada City Center. Free Wi-Fi, plugs, AC, decent coffee for USD 3.
Magawish / Al Mouj: the apartment pool. Honestly, for many nomads this is the most productive 9–5 of the week.

6. Banking & money

Most nomads use a combination of a Wise (formerly TransferWise) multi-currency card, a UK/EU bank card that does not charge foreign transaction fees (Revolut, Monzo, N26, Starling), and EGP cash for daily expenses. ATMs are everywhere; the CIB and NBE machines give the best rates. Avoid the “exchange” shops at the airport — you will lose 8–12% on the rate.

For longer stays, open an EGP account with CIB or QNB. Bring your passport, a utility bill in your home country, and a letter from your landlord. You can be set up in 2–3 visits and a week of paperwork.

7. Day-to-day logistics

Groceries: Carrefour (Hurghada City Center, Senzo Mall, Spinneys Sahl Hasheesh). The Metro and Kheir Zaman chains are 30% cheaper for local produce and cleaning products.
Water: do not drink the tap water. Use the 1.5 L bottles from the supermarket (USD 0.10 each) or the in-apartment filter.
Pharmacies: everywhere. Most pharmacists speak some English, brand-name medication is available without prescription. Bring your own antibiotics and codeine-based painkillers if you rely on them.
Health: Hurghada General Hospital is the public option; El Gouna Hospital is the private international one (insurance recommended). Most nomads keep a SafetyWing plan for emergencies and a small EGP float for the pharmacy.

8. Time-zone advantage for distributed teams

Hurghada is UTC+2 in winter, UTC+3 in summer (no DST). The sweet spot for collaboration:

With Europe (London, Berlin, Paris): 1–2 hour overlap, perfect for a daily 09:00 GMT standup.
With US East Coast: morning overlap (07:00–11:00 ET is your 13:00–17:00 local).
With US West Coast: most days overlap only by 1–2 hours. Plan to flex.
With Dubai / Saudi / India: 3–4 hours overlap, easy async with a single sync.

9. Things to know that no blog will tell you

Friday is the weekly holiday. Most banks, government offices and many shops close by 14:00. Plan visa runs, payments and admin accordingly.
Ramadan: the city goes quiet during the day, comes alive at sunset. Most nomads actually prefer it — the prices drop, the air cools, the Iftar buffets are legendary.
Tipping (baksheesh): 5–10% in restaurants, EGP 20–50 for housekeeping, EGP 50–100 for drivers. It is a meaningful part of the local economy.
Summer humidity (June–August) is the only serious downside. Work from air-conditioned spaces between 11:00–17:00, then swim.
