Hurghada Airport Transfer with a Child Seat — What You Actually Get

Hurghada Airport Transfer with a Child Seat — What You Actually Get

Travelling to Hurghada with kids changes the transfer question from “cheapest way to get to the hotel” to “is the car seat the right one, fitted properly, before we land”. Most kerb-side taxis don’t carry child seats at all. Most pre-booked transfers carry them on request. This guide explains what to expect from each, what age group needs which seat, and what to tell the operator when you book.

The legal bit

Egyptian law requires child seats for children under 7 (or under 12 and under 150 cm, depending on the local interpretation). Police checkpoints between the airport and Sahl Hasheesh / Makadi / Soma Bay do occasionally stop vehicles without fitted child seats, especially on weekends.

Even if you don’t get stopped, a child seat is the single biggest safety upgrade for any road trip. The airport-to-hotel transfer is the highest-risk leg of any holiday.

What seat does your child need?

The right seat depends on age, weight and height — not age alone.

| Child | What they need | |—|—| | 0–12 months (under 13 kg) | Rear-facing infant carrier (Group 0+) | | 1–3 years (9–18 kg) | Forward-facing toddler seat with harness (Group 1) | | 3–6 years (15–25 kg) | Forward-facing booster with harness (Group 2) | | 6–12 years (22–36 kg, under 150 cm) | Booster cushion (Group 3) |

A 9-month-old and a 5-year-old need two different seats. Tell the operator the age of each child at booking so the right seat is fitted before pickup.

What MAMO provides for free

When you book a MAMO Hurghada airport transfer, infant / toddler / booster seats are free on request. The driver fits them before you land, in the parking area, so the child is properly secured before you get in.

What we carry:

  • Infant carrier (Group 0+). For under 1 year / under 13 kg.
  • Toddler seat (Group 1). For 1–3 years / 9–18 kg.
  • Booster with harness (Group 2). For 3–6 years / 15–25 kg.
  • Booster cushion (Group 3). For 6–12 years / 22–36 kg.

If you have an unusual need — a twin infant setup, a seat for a child with specific medical needs — mention it in the WhatsApp message at booking. We will confirm whether we can accommodate it before you fly.

What to tell the driver at booking

In your WhatsApp message (or in the booking form), include:

  1. The age of each child. Not just “we have a 4-year-old” — give the year and month if you can.
  2. The weight if the child is on the boundary. Some 3-year-olds are 14 kg (still need Group 1) and some are 18 kg (still Group 1 but borderline).
  3. Any medical requirement. Some children need specific head-and-neck support. Mention it.
  4. How many child seats you need. If you have two children of different ages, you need two seats.

A good message looks like:

> Hello MAMO, I want a transfer from HRG to Sahl Hasheesh on 12 October at 14:30. Flight SU 2541. 2 adults, 1 child (4 years, 18 kg, needs booster with harness), 1 child (1 year, 11 kg, needs infant carrier rear-facing). 2 large suitcases + 1 stroller. Please confirm the price and that you can fit both child seats.

How the seat is fitted

The driver meets you at the arrivals kerb, opens the boot, and fits the seat before you put the child in. This takes 3–5 minutes. The driver will:

  1. Identify the right seat from the boot.
  2. Fit it to the rear seat (middle position is safest).
  3. Tighten the seatbelt or anchor points.
  4. Test the fit by trying to move the seat — it should not slide more than 2 cm in any direction.

You can and should watch this and ask the driver to redo it if it looks loose. A poorly fitted child seat is barely better than no seat at all.

What about luggage

A family of 2 adults + 2 children typically travels with:

  • 2 large suitcases (checked)
  • 2 cabin bags (hand)
  • 1 stroller
  • 1 car seat (yours, if you brought your own — though most people don’t bother for a transfer)

This fits in the boot of a sedan (Changan EADO Plus has a 520 L boot). For a third large suitcase or for dive gear, upgrade to the SUV.

What if the operator doesn’t have child seats?

Some operators — especially the cheapest kerb-side taxis — don’t carry child seats at all. If you book one of these, you’ll have to:

  1. Bring your own seat from home (lots of overhead luggage).
  2. Rent one at the airport (limited stock, expensive, wrong size risk).
  3. Hold the child on your lap for the transfer — illegal, unsafe.

The simplest fix is to book with an operator that confirms the seat at booking. MAMO confirms the seat in writing in your WhatsApp thread before you fly.

FAQs

Are child seats really free? Yes. No surcharge for infant, toddler or booster seats on MAMO transfers.

Can I bring my own child seat? Yes. The driver will fit it for you. Mention it in the WhatsApp message so the driver knows to expect it.

What if my child is between sizes? Tell us the weight and height. We will choose the seat that matches the upper boundary — a heavier child gets the next-size-up seat.

Do you have ISOFIX? The Changan EADO Plus has ISOFIX anchors. If your child’s seat is ISOFIX-fitted, mention it and we’ll bring the matching base.

Can a 2-year-old ride in a booster cushion? No. A 2-year-old must be in a Group 1 forward-facing seat with a 5-point harness. Booster cushions are for children over 3.
